Amazing Art from Jen Kindell

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Artists, Jennifer Kindell, Tomatero Farm, Vendors, Zuckerman's Farm | Leave a comment

Part of MCM’s mission is to support small businesses in the Mission and Jen Kindell is a local artist that recently joined the market. Jen has been a vendor at MCM since February, and you don’t want to miss her beautiful silkscreened products, featuring vibrant, colorful images of seasonal fruits and vegetables. Jen began her career as an independent artist relatively recently – in August of last year, she started making screen prints of produce, just for herself. After seeing her work, friends and family members requested their own copies. She began selling her artwork on Etsy and at MCM, so that each of us can own a Jen Kindell original! She has an art degree from the Rhode Island School of Design and has also been an art teacher in the past, spreading her love of art to countless students!

Jen is excited to be at MCM because she feels constantly inspired by the seasonal produce all around her.  Previously, she created a piece that is an ode to the purple asparagus from Zuckerman’s.  Her latest is a strawberry inspired by Tomatero Farm (a sneak peek of this awesome design is shown below).  “This is the best market in the city,” she says.  “I feel blessed to be a part of it.”  We’re glad to have you, Jen!  Come out to MCM to see Jen’s amazing artwork in person, and you can also visit her on the web!

Dream Again and Paint a Mural

You know that beautiful mural at the corner of Bartlett and 21st Streets? Daniel Galvez painted that mural, titled Dream, in 1996 and it’s had a healthy life until recently. Now the artist has generously offered his time to restore the mural to its original glory! Check out the original opening with Mayor Willie Brown, Ruth Asawa of Ruth’s Table, and other local luminaries below:

Want to be a part of the community? Learn the art of mural-making with one of the Mission’s most famous (he also painted Carnaval on 24th and South Van Ness). Come paint and restore Dream with Daniel in the month of October!

Deer in Amate Mission

Amate Mission by Jet Martinez, jetromartinez.com

As some of you already know, Mission Community Market supports an array of local arts and music.

We are partnering with various muralist organizations, to help beautify the market location and showcase emerging and established artists.

Upcoming mural projects include a new youth mural to be installed with the help of artist Chris Treggiari. Another mural is planned, pending funding, for this summer. Stay tuned!

San Francisco’s StreetSmARTs program supported the Amate Mission mural, painted on the Mission Market wall and we are very grateful for their support. StreetsSmARTs is a collaboration between the San Francisco Arts Commission (SFAC) and the Department of Public Works (DPW) that aims to restore San Francisco’s stature as a recognized, international destination for mural art. MCM looks forward to working with StreetSmARTs on future murals. If you’d like to support a mural or improvements to the streetscape (e.g. planters, fences, and trash areas), you can support MCM here.
