This week our farmer’s market is going to be buzzing with the music of La Gente performed by its lead singer Rafael Sarria. La Gente mixes music from across the world to deliver powerful messages and contagious dance rhythms. Rafael who goes by “Raffa” is an engaging and energetic performer, talented in various musical instruments and can get everyone to get up and dance. Raffa is a Resident Artist at the Red Poppy Art House and one of the head organizers for M.A.P.P. (Mission Arts Performance Program), which is taking place this Saturday and Sunday all over the Mission. Don’t miss this electrifying performance at the Mission Community Market this Thursday at 4pm.

HAPPY MAY DAY!

In the spirit of the movement, we’d like to introduce

Local Artist & Printmaker Michael Roman
by: Michael Ramon
According to his site, “Michael Roman is an activist. He rails against the injustices of the world in his work, yet his work walks between the lines of reality and unreality and connects the dots of consequences.”

See more of Roman’s art here. He will have his handmade stencils and screenprints for sale at the market this week.

“Born and raised in Los Angeles, Roman moved to New York in the mid-70s, and began making handmade stencils and screen prints. Roman’s colorful, traditional images merge Mexican style with Warhol techniques to adorn wood, canvas, metal, and fabric. He has created work for Carlos Santana, Madonna, and Keith Richards. He lives in San Francisco but keeps a heart and foot in Oaxaca, where he travels each year to celebrate the Day of the Dead at his gallery, La Mano Magica.”
