Free Range Rotisserie Chicken Rolling into MCM!

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Blog, Roli Roti | Leave a comment

This week we’re excited to welcome Roli Roti to the Mission Community Market for the very first time! You may have enjoyed their signature free range Sonoma Valley rotisserie chicken at the Ferry Building and other local markets, but now you can pick up a whole, half, or quarter chicken conveniently in the Mission at MCM. Check out their farmer’s market menu to see what they’ll have on offer.

We’re very happy that Roli Roti will be joining the market this week, and we hope that all our loyal patrons will come out to show them some love on their first day!

Music from Citizen’s Jazz & Jascha

This week we’re excited to welcome two brand new acts to MCM!

At 4:00, Citizen’s Jazz will treat us to some lively jazz tunes. Citizen’s Jazz is a collective of some of the most talented and passionate jazz musicians in the Bay Area. Led by bassist Caroline Chung (pictured), the concept was devised from and inspired by the creativity of the many wonderful musicians she has met and played with. Each combo brings in a different flavor to the collective while maintaining the integrity of be bop, swing & blues from the good ol’ days!

At 6:30, Jascha (ya-sha) will wow us with a set of Brazilian pop songs. Jascha is a songwriter and science journalist in San Francisco. His debut album A Cure for Sleep was praised for being a collection of “deceptively simple, deeply weird pop songs” that earned comparisons to Sufjan Stevens and Leonard Cohen. Jascha’s second album, The Future Limited, was released in March 2012. One of his music videos went viral after appearing on The Atlantic and Boing Boing.

We are excited to welcome both Citizen’s Jazz and Jascha to MCM this week. All the fun starts this Thursday at 4:00 pm!

MCM Shirts for the whole family!

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Blog | Leave a comment

Did you miss your chance to get an MCM shirt the first time we offered them a few months back?

Did we not have a shirt in your desired size/color?

Are you a male who doesn’t want to wear a shirt cut for a woman’s body?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above, you’re in luck! The limited-edition first run of shirts was so popular that we decided to order a second, larger batch in a wider variety of sizes and colors. That’s right–MCM shirts will be sold at the market info table at 22nd Street and Bartlett this Thursday and every Thursday while supplies last. Children’s shirts are $9 and adults’ shirts are $20. All proceeds benefit arts and nutrition programming at MCM.

Hurry down to MCM this Thursday and grab one while they last, and then get ready to represent your favorite community market all over town!

We’re excited to announce that throughout the month of September 2012, Commonwealth restaurant will be donating $10 to the Mission Community Market for the sale of each tasting menu purchased. Commonwealth is a Progressive American restaurant located in the Mission at 2224 Mission Street (cross-street is 18th). Every month they choose a local beneficiary, and so far, they have raised over $28,000 for local non-profits! We’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to Commonwealth for all their support, and to all the diners whose tasting menu purchases will benefit MCM. Make a reservation today to support MCM and the benevolent business model at Commonwealth!

Great Musicians Returning to MCM!

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Blog, Live Music | Leave a comment

This week we are excited to welcome two great musical acts back to Bartlett Street. These performers aren’t strangers to MCM, and each time they come by they leave us filled with positivity at hearing their lively music.

First up will be Uni and her Ukelele at 4pm. Uni is Heather Marie Ellison. Uni and her Ukelele began it’s life in 2004 as an outlet for an already accomplished singer to self-publish and perform original work independently. Since that time Uni has released three full albums, numerous EPs, collaborations, and a covers album ranging from lo-fi indie pop to melodic strings to rock. Uni’s sound has been described as eclectic, infectious pop, and not your usual Ukulele fare. Recipient of the SF Weekly Music Award, Uni has toured all over the USA and Canada, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and has been the subject of celebrated festival Documentary  ”The Mighty Uke.”

We will also welcome La Familia Peña-Govea this Thursday at 6pm. As a bandleader, arranger, trumpeter, accordionist, vocalist, and recording artist, Miguel Govea offers some of the best Latin music in the Bay Area. For the last 25 years, he has led and accompanied various musical ensembles. At one fateful performance, Miguel met Susan Peña, who eventually became the mother of his daughters, Rene and Cecilia. Twenty years later, the four members of La Familia Peña-Govea are exciting performers of traditional Tex-Mex and Colombian music, garnering acclaim at festivals and events throughout Northern California.
