It seems like yesterday when local artist Jet Martinez took upon painting a new mural on the Mission Market Building. Now through the help of San Francisco’s StreetSmARTS program and Mission Community Market, Jet has been able to complete the project and was there to present it to the community during the Market yesterday. The mural itself incorporates elements of the ‘Amate’ style paper art that has been practiced in Mexico for centuries. The name ‘Amate’ (Spanish for ‘Love yourself’) also refers to breathing a fresh new perspective into the Mission district itself. Jet hopes the piece will remind those living in the Mission the beauty of it’s presence and the mixture of cultures residing in it.
