boffo

If you haven’t yet had a chance to taste some of the delicious dinner options from Boffo Cart, you’re missing out on some of the best food that MCM has to offer.

Operated by Rhasaan Fernandez of Sam’s Log Cabin in Albany, this street food vendor joined the market in April 2013. Boffo Cart offers a unique menu each week that has something for everyone–vegetarians and omnivores alike. The best part is, everything is made with organic, in-season produce. Rhasaan makes his own calzone and piadina dough, and can often be found shopping for his ingredients from the MCM vendors before the market. Come on down to see what this talented chef has whipped up with all the produce from the vendors you’ve come to know and love.

Featured on the Boffo menu this week:

  • The Italian Chopped Pork Sandwich (Pasture raised pork seared with onions, marjoram & basil)
  • Piadina (thin homemade Italian flatbread) with tomato, basil & mozzarella
  • Eggplant Parmesan Calzone with a twist, featuring Japanese eggplant, thai basil, tomato, and bird chilies
  • Panini with Gypsy peppers, onions & mozzarella

Get on down to MCM this Thursday 4-8pm, and come hungry!

Meet our new intern Dana!

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Blog, Internship | 2 Comments

Hey everyone!

My name is Dana and I will be an MCM Intern this summer. Having spent some time as a Mercado volunteer and shopper, I am super stoked to be joining the team and contributing behind the scenes and on Thursdays. I’ve had a serious passion for healthy, fair, good food for as long as I remember. As with most foodies, this passion started as a love of cooking and eating and has morphed into a desire to make change within America’s food system by deepening consumers’ relationships with the food they eat. I can’t wait to be a regular part of the connections between producers and the public at the Mission Mercado. I’ll also be contributing to this blog regularly with vendor features, recipes, and more.

I spend my time between my job slinging deliciousness as a cheesemonger at Mission Cheese, delighting my roommates with home-baked cookies, and cooking up the treasures I discover at MCM.

Keep an eye out for my future posts and I’ll see you Thursdays at Bartlett & 22nd!

Give Input on the Future of Bartlett Street

Invest in your community! Give input on the future of Bartlett Street at an open house Wednesday May 29th!

Join the City of San Francisco for an open house to discuss the future of Bartlett Street. Thanks to YOUR support, we secured funds for the Mercado Plaza project. Now tell us what you think the future should look like at an open house hosted by the San Francisco Planning Department, Dept of Public Works, MTA, the Rebar Group, and MCM. Improvements could include new pavement, safer sidewalks, market stalls, better lighting, street graphics, a marquee, and more. But it all depends on your input! Please come and tell us what you think! Light refreshments will be provided.

Mercado Plaza Open House
Wednesday, May 29 –  6:00-7:30 PM

This Thursday March 14th we have an amazing market planned for you! Not only are we welcoming some new vendors, we’re also welcoming back some of your favorite returning vendors who are just getting started this season!

Our newest vendor is Zuckerman’s Farm, selling several varieties of potatoes from fingerlings to yukon golds, as well as small and large varieties of asparagus. These potatoes will be the perfect addition to your corned beef and cabbage this St. Patty’s Day!

onigilly

After much anticipation, we’re thrilled to announce that Onigilly will make their return to MCM this Thursday! They’ll be back on a bi-weekly schedule so you can catch them at MCM on the 14th and the 28th this month. We’re so glad that we’ll have their tasty Japanese rice wraps back on Bartlett Street! Not to be outdone, Shrimp and Love Ceviche will also be back with their signature styles of ceviche, ranging from spicy to subtly sweet and everything in between! Our pals at 4505 Meats will have St. Patty’s Day specials and they’ll be smoking meats on site!

mountaindojo

In case all that doesn’t entice you, we’ve also got music from Heather Normandale at 4:30 pm and Mountain Dojo with Toshio Hirano and Dave Berry at 6:00 pm. Heather plays eclectic folk music that combines cello, marimba, bells and trumpet, along with rhythm-driven picking on banjo, steel mandolin, and guitar.

Mountain Dojo is a bluegrass duo known to entertain with their energetic and soulful shows. They incorporate a mix of classic country and bluesy songs from the golden era of 1920-1949 featuring guitar, mandolin, and vocal harmonies.

Come on down this Thursday 4-8pm for an awesome night!
