Meet Tina and Zoe (16 months), MCM regulars who love the music, food demos, and seeing their neighbors!

Where do you live?  Liberty & Guerrero

How often do you come to the MCM?  Every week, pretty much.

What are you buying?  Peaches from Twin Girls, a special order from Bok Ssam (in a bowl) so that Zoe can eat it.  I love all the samples that the vendors give out, so that Zoe can try new things. Often, we get salmon from Coastside Farms or cakes from flourChylde. And, we LOVE getting the kettle corn from Peter’s Kettle Corn!

What’s your favorite part of the market? We like the music, and also the cooking demos at the Urban Sprouts booth.  I really like the guy who does them*; he’s always so engaging.  It’s also nice to see people from the neighborhood.

What’s the best kept secret at MCM, or something you would like people to know about? There are more food vendors than before; the market has really grown. Also, it’s a great place to have dinner, that’s why you see so many parents here.

* Editor’s note: That’s Raul Hernandez with Urban Sprouts! Yay Raul!

Tasty Summer Cheese Pairings

As a self-described cheese fiend, I’m always looking for fun new ways to incorporate cheese into just about every minute of my day. While many of us may think of cheese mainly as a savory snack, pairing a subtly salty cheese with a basket of vine-ripened berries is actually one of my favorite things about summer. Both of MCM’s cheese vendors–Achadinha Cheese Company and Spring Hill Cheese–offer cheeses that pair deliciously with what’s in season right now, like blueberries from Rainbow Orchards or raspberries, strawberries, and blackberries from Yerena Farms.

Achadinha carries several goat’s milk cheeses, but my favorite is Capricious, an aged cheese hand-rolled in the European style. The following recipe from Achadinha’s website offers a simple way to combine it with the freshest summer fruits. Read more

Gluten-Free Options at MCM

Posted on by Mission Community Market in Blog, Bread SRSLY, Flour Chylde Bakery | Leave a comment

With the ever-growing popularity of going gluten-free, the Mission Community Market is excited to be offering more and more wheat-free options for those with gluten sensitivities!

In June, Flour Chylde Bakery joined MCM, bringing with them tortes and cakes made entirely without wheat, rye, barley, or oat flours. Though they are not an entirely gluten-free bakery and suggest that those with extreme allergies not risk eating their gluten-free products, their baked goods are so tasty that the gluten-loving and gluten-averse patrons alike can enjoy them! They also offer a variety of other pastries that are not gluten-free.

This week, we’re excited to welcome a new vendor, Bread SRSLY, to the Mission Community Market! Bread SRSLY specializes in gluten-free breads and muffins baked in small batches. The menu rotates each week featuring two kinds of bread and one type of muffin, with ingredients sourced from local, sustainable producers. Read more
